Tribute to Rubena (Ruby) Woodhouse, Villa Manager, 2000-2016
We are honored to celebrate the life of Rubena Woodhouse, our villa manager, who passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2016 after a brief illness.
Ms. Ruby, as she was affectionately called by guests and staff alike, was one of the longest members of the Mais Oui family, having been with us since its inception in 2000.
She truly lived the spirit of hospitality and enjoyed welcoming and caring for guests at the villa. She was very proud of the villa and just loved sharing the experience with others.
Hebrews 13:2 was one of her core values, which she instilled in the villa staff as well –
“Be sure to welcome strangers into your home. By doing this, some people have welcomed angels as guests, without even knowing it.”
She influenced thousands of young people through her many many years as an elementary school teacher and later school principal. Children were always very near and dear to her heart. She supported a basic school near her home by helping with supplies as well as clothes for the children. Just this past Christmas, she and Darrian created care packages for children who were in the Mandeville Hospital over the holiday season.
Ruby was also a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. She was instrumental in educating anyone who would listen about the importance of talking about cancer and seeking appropriate care. She encouraged women to check their breasts regularly. She broke down the secret wall that often surrounds cancer and was very open about her diagnosis and treatment. When she passed away, she was cancer-free and she would want others to know that.
We have lost a very special member of our family. Despite our sadness, we are grateful for the time we shared together and for the wonderful memories that will live on in our hearts.
